New Venture

Yikes it is Labor Day weekend already-where did summer go! I just got back from an exciting trip to Chicago. I met with some great Dominicans and we shared so much about the wonderful spirit Dominicans share. One was Kathi Sleziak, O.P. who does a lot of things with youth and young adults in the Grand Rapids, MI area and beyond. I also met with Tony Butler and Steph Flax of the Dominican Volunteers. This is an awesome group which provides great opportunities for young people to serve with Domincans in ministry across the U.S. I recommend that you visit their website to learn more. It is www.dvusa.org
Tonight I am off to my first Catholic Underground experience in NYC. I am looking forward to being able to pray and meet young faithfilled adults. Will let you know how it goes. Until then.....
Peace and blessings.

First Friday

TGIF as they say. It's the first Friday of August....can you believe it is August already! A lot of young people are already getting ready to go back to school. I remember those days as a teacher as well. You think kids are nervous before the first day???? Anyway, I am glad for a weekend off and look forward to hanging out with friends. Tomorrow is the Feast of our founder St. Dominic a cool guy for sure. He loved hanging out and chatting about the Lord....and he loved a good celebration! That is one Dominican tradition that has survived the centuries!

Welcome

Welcome to my new bolg: Dominican Sisters sharing our Spirit and what a spirit that is!! For over 800 years wonderful women have lived lives of faith, courage, inspiration, compassion and ingenuity to preach the Word of God in the tradition of our Founder St. Dominic. I first encountered that wonderful spirit at St. Helena High School in the Bronx (class of '67). I was just your typical teen, enjoying hanging out with my friends, listening to rock, going to parties-you know the usual stuff. I had thought (not too seriously) about becoming a sister and kept putting that out of my head. Yet it kept coming back and seeing first hand the spirit of the Dominican Sisters helped me take a turn on the path of my life's journey that I have never regretted and I am sure my sister pals will agree. It is a wonderful life-we live lives that make a difference and you can too. Let's start the conversation going....................
